Whilst Amazon and eBay have a reputation as giants of UK e-commerce, they aren’t the only ones you should be considering if you want to reach consumers across Europe. If you want to sell successfully online in Poland, Allegro is a key marketplace to take advantage of.
Number one marketplace
As the sixth most populous country in the EU with an estimated six in ten internet users shopping online, Poland is a flourishing market. Allegro is undoubtedly the market leader, an early entry into e-commerce gave this marketplace a competitive advantage and they now boast a market share of almost 90 percent. Established in 1999 as an auction site, Allegro has grown into a thriving marketplace that now sells to 14 million consumers. It’s Poland’s biggest e-commerce marketplace and largest search engine, and is very well known across Central and Eastern Europe. In fact, 81% of surveyed internet users say Allegro is their first choice when buying products online.
What to sell?
Now a total of 90 million offers are available online, of which about 1 million are sold daily with new items currently making up 93% of all offers on the marketplace. Allegro is looking for sellers in every category presented on their platform. The top five categories are:
- Home and Garden
- Automotive
- Fashion
- Electronics
- Kids
The entry into the Polish market
The prospects for UK sellers in Poland are favourable. Products from the UK have a good reputation with the promise of quality. Allegro offers affiliates a range of service offerings similar to those found in other marketplaces. These include an integrated payment system and delivery via parcel services to pick-up stations for customers. In general, Polish consumers prefer national payment methods such as PayU or Przelewy 24. Paypal is also widely used.
Top Tip > Before entering the Polish market, traders should take a closer look at the intricacies of consumer rights, for example with regards to returns and warranties.
Given the market power of Allegro, it would be unwise to try to conquer the Polish market through other platforms. By connecting Allegro to our system, Through our Rithum customers can easily submit an existing product data feed to the marketplace — and do it within the comfort of their own language and currency.
